Getting more familiar with what new allies need to become advocates for equality is easy. PFLAG's Learning & Inclusion team has developed dozes of learning sessions that can help to shape your chapter's ally engagement efforts. If you have questions, please contact [email protected].
Recent PFLAG Academy Online sessions that feature the Straight for Equality program include:
What the +?: Understanding and Supporting Expansive LGBTQ+ Identities: Lesbian. Gay. Bisexual. Transgender. Queer. Simple, right? Not for everyone. As allies become more engaged in LGBTQ+ spaces and advocacy, they often have questions about “the plus.” Please join PFLAG National to learn more about terminology that goes beyond the basics. Whether you’re not a member of the LGBTQ+ community or a person who is LGBTQ+ looking to understand and serve as an ally to others in this space, this session will get you started and ready for conversations.
Supporting Trans & Nonbinary Loved Ones: What Would You Do?: As people who are transgender and nonbinary become more visible, the need to have educated and engaged allies to support them becomes greater. In this session, we’ll review the core learnings for people who want to be allies to their trans and nonbinary friends and family and then put what they’ve learned to work, navigating real-world interactions.
What Would You Do?: Tips and Tools for PFLAGers and Allies in Tough Situations: Active and visible allyship is going to be more significant than ever and as PFLAGers it is important to model the behavior we hope to see in others. But sometimes even the most dedicated ally can run in to situations where they're not sure how to react or whether a reaction is even warranted. Straight for Equality is here to help.
So You Think You Can Ally? Advanced Ally Engagement Skills for PFLAG Chapters: PFLAG chapters support families, educate their community about the issues their loved ones face, and advocate for LGBTQ+ equality. Allies have become an integral part of that work as chapters work to expand their reach, build coalition, and engage new donors, supporters, and even members.
