fbpx Something to Talk About Live: June 17, 2021 | Straight for Equality

Looking for ways to keep the conversation going about LGBTQ+ issues with your ERG, community group, or PFLAG chapter? Welcome to Something to Talk About, a series designed by PFLAG National’s Straight for Equality program to create conversation about LGBTQ+ issues. Each week we’ll offer an article on LGBTQ+ topics and suggest a few questions you can use to lead a discussion.

We hosted a conversation about this article as a part of PFLAG Connects and Something to Talk About Live on Thursday, June 17. Did you miss it? You can still watch it here!

Author: George M. Johnson

Questions for Discussion:

  1. Reading the story shared here, is there anything that the author shared that surprises you? Does any part of the author’s story resonate with you personally?

  2. What advice would you give to a young, black, queer person who is thinking about coming out to their family? Do you have any recommendations when it comes to coming out to dad in particular?

  3. Is there anything we as allies can do to create space, specifically for black fathers, who may be struggling to understand their child’s sexual orientation or gender identity?  Are there any resources you would recommend?
