March 11th Marks PFLAG’s 50th Anniversary!
The first meeting of PFLAG occurred on March 11, 1973 in the basement of a church in Manhattan. Fifty years later its mission and purpose is still impacting communities throughout the US.
Unfortunately, on the date and time this conversation was scheduled our host was home recovering from COVID.
You can watch our January 19 show with Suzanne and Avril Swann which was rebroadcast at show time on March 9 here. And of course you can use the article and questions selected to host your own small group conversations at any time!

Questions for Discussion:
- Have you ever attended a PFLAG meeting? If you feel comfortable sharing, what was that experience like for you?
- Why do you think organization’s like PFLAG are still necessary in 2023?
- Can you identify the LGBTQ+ inclusive organizations and resources that are available in the town/city where you live? If not, where could you go to find that information?
Bonus Resources: Check out “PFLAG Sussex County to hold first meeting tonight” from the West Milford Messenger by Kathy Shwiff and these resources from PFLAG about our history.
About Our Guests:
Something to Talk About Live is a series designed by PFLAG National’s Straight for Equality program to create conversation about LGBTQ+ issues. Each week we offer an article on LGBTQ+ topics and suggest a few questions you can use to lead a discussion with your ERG, community group, or PFLAG chapter.
