May Your Holidays Be Merry and Gay
The holidays can be a difficult time for some LGBTQ+ folks, but we can all help to create and find happiness this winter. This episode of Something to Talk About Live, we will be discussing Emily Bashforth’s article in LGBTQ Nation, “11 ways to spark queer joy this holiday season” with PFLAG National Board President, Kathy Godwin as well as some familiar faces from the PFLAG National staff!Â
Something to Talk About Live is a series designed by PFLAG National’s Straight for Equality program to create conversation about LGBTQ+ issues. Each week we offer an article on LGBTQ+ topics and suggest a few questions you can use to lead a discussion with your ERG, community group, or PFLAG chapter.
We hosted a conversation about this article as a part of PFLAG Connects and Something to Talk About Live on Thursday, December 16. Did you miss it? You can still watch it here!Â

How can families who are supportive of their LGBTQ+ loved ones help to spark queer joy around the holidays? Are there any specific ways for them to make holidays more inclusive? For people whose families are not yet supportive, what are some ways to help navigate tough holiday gatherings with family?
-
Many people who are LGBTQ+ talk about their chosen family. How did you come to learn about this term? What role does chosen family play in making the holiday season less difficult for LGBTQ+ folks? Can you tell us a little bit about your chosen family?
-
How are you planning to bring joy into your life this holiday season? Will you be taking part in any of the activities outlined on this list? Which ones? Are they any other activities that are part of your holiday tradition?
