Brands Supporting LGBTQ+ Equality

Looking for ways to keep the conversation going about LGBTQ+ issues with your ERG, community group, or PFLAG chapter? Welcome to Something to Talk About, a monthly series designed by PFLAG National’s Straight for Equality program to create conversation about LGBTQ+ issues. Each month we’ll offer an article on LGBTQ+ topics and suggest a few questions you can use to lead a discussion.

We hosted a conversation about this article as a part of PFLAG Connects and Something to Talk About Live on Thursday, July 16. Did you miss it? You can still watch it here!

Article: New LGBTQ Community Survey Reveals Brands Supporting LGBTQ Equality “More Important Than Ever”

Source: Curve Magazine

Discussion Questions:

  1. The headline for the report focuses on the significant support that LGBTQ+ consumers demonstrate for companies and organizations that visibly support the community. These numbers are higher than they’ve ever been before. Why do you think this is the case?

  2. Were you surprised by any of the motivations to vote that different groups indicated? Did any of the discrepancies between groups surprise you (e.g., there’s a 13-point difference between Black and white respondents on the importance of racial justice, and a 33-point difference between cis gay and bi men and gender-expansive folks on prioritizing transgender issues)?

  3. Overall, respondents said that supporting youth, workplace equality, and fighting “religious freedom” bills were their top priorities. Were you surprised by what came out at the bottom of the list (women’s issues, supporting immigrants, and supporting people who are bi)? Why or why not?
