Action Items for New Allies
Once you’ve identified yourself as an ally, what comes next? Words matter more when there’s some action behind them. Here are three things for New Allies to do as soon as they’re ready to take action:
Follow PFLAG on Social Media
Sometimes a big journey starts with a single click of the mouse. Following PFLAG and Straight for Equality on LinkedIn (or your favorite social media platform: Instagram, Facebook, Threads) is a great first step to coming out as an ally, speaking up for LGBTQ+ equality when you have the opportunity, and joining in by taking action to support your LGBTQ+ friends, family, classmates, and colleagues.
Submit your personal story.
We truly believe that our personal stories as allies can help change the world — one person at a time. What brought you here, and what motivates you to be an ally? Your voice may be the one that transforms someone else’s ideas about who allies are. It won’t take long. We’re looking for 250-350 words on why this issue matters to you.
Pass a Straight for Equality publication along to someone new.
If you’re looking for a great way to educate and engage people, why not share what you’ve learned? If you’ve got a copy of the guide to being a straight ally, share it with one of your friends. Did you read it online? Forward the link to some friends and ask them to read it. Give people a few days, and then ask them what they thought about the book.
